Open Question: Why not designer breeds?
A lot of people seem to be hating hybrid dogs or "designer breeds" Some people say that the breeders who breed them are not responsible ones and that people shouldn't be paying for mutts. My question is, what's wrong with mutts? aren't they like every the other breeds except for the fact that they are cross-bred? Are they more prone to diseases? Are they not as smart? or do people just dislike the dogs that aren't "pure"? thnx!

Open Question: Should only people who are 100% Homo sapiens be allowed to vote?
Since hybrids of true humans (H. sapiens) and other species (like H. neanderthalensis) are not fully human, why should they also be given human rights? With the ease and low price of genetic testing, why not include it in the census and only give voting cards to people who don't gift any protein markers proper to non-human species like H. neanderthalensis (CRP beta-1, ALC, DIN-5, HLA BA18, etc.).

Ok. So, I have been planting flowers around my town for about 3 wks now and I haven't gotten one hybrid out of 5 SEPERATE areas of flowers. Resolved Question: trying to find out if my arlec battery charger can charge an NS50P Power Crank Battery.?
I only have an Arlec battery charger (smallest, 2500 compact) and a PowerCrank NS50P (600 icy cranking amp super heavy duty car battery), will this charger actually re-charge the battery? the charger mentions guide acid batteries, the NS50P is "Calcium hybrid technology" is there any real difference? Thanks mate, every I needed was someone with the knowledge, I've asked around but people didn't seem to know if "calcium hybrid technology" differed from standard batteries, from research I can safely agree with you %100, though the charger I possess may be undercharging as it's the cheapest I could receive.

Open Question: Anyone find Toyota Recalls suspicious?
I didn't think it was suspicious at every until every of a sudden its one story after another, and this morning what made me officially suspicious was they had this news report on a toyota hybrid not being able to brake I'm a theatre student, I observe the way people act especially on camera. and the more i observed the guy whos toyota "lost control", it looked like a set up actor, there was no way his story was believable. Even the police looked like they were smiling! It looked like a bad cast group of actors and they kept repeating over and over how he got anxiety - they interviewed him the same morning it happened & he looked SOOOO calm for just having a panic attack. suspicious?

Open Question: what kind of twin tip skis?
I am currently a snowboarder this season (well when it was still going on) and I've been snowboarding for two seasons and I am pretty good but I am getting sleepy of it, especially since EVERYONE is switching over and I am sort of an individualist and i like to be. I've been skiing for three and a half years as well and I am much better at it than snowboarding just not at terrain park and I want to switch over to it and learn park. Obviously I would want freestyle skis for this but I have a lot of friends that like to do regular hills so I would be doing a lot of steep hills and moguls along with tricks so i was wondering if there were any good hybrid skis (preferably below 300 dollars, not including boots) that are great for spins and downhill expert terrain. I know this was a very long read but thanks in advance for your information! :D

Open Question: Car Accident, Need Help Please?
So heres the story: About 1 year ago today , i got into a car accident. I was stopped at a red light and i was looking down at my IPod and changing songs, I saw the green light out of the corner of my eye and I eased off the break. As I did i didn't notice the car in front of me not moving and I hit them going 1 mile a hour. We pulled off into a parking lot by 7/1l, and the daughter and mom in the accident went to go receive coffees in 7/11 and the dad and me both exchanged information, I also called my mom and she was there in a matter of 10 minutes, I was 17 at the time. The insurance company have been trying to cease the family from sueing me , but apparently it has arrive to the point where the family wants to sue me personally for internal injuries. So far apparently medical bills for the family is 10 grand per each family member in the accident so 30 grand total. They told my insurance company that they had back injuries and bad neck injuries. Now i'm kinda freaking out but I have a high chance I'm going to win the damage isn't close enough to cause injuries that high in medical bills, from the damage we spent 80 dollars to fix our plastic bumper on the Toyota Hybrid and 800$ to knock out the dent in their bumper. The other family has a lawyer that keep bring up stuff to make me look like the bad guy like hes a really good lawyer, so idk what to do. Any answers? help? suggestions?

Open Question: What information would be needed to classify an animal as a single species?
I need help answering this question about hybrid zones: The yellow-rumped warbler was formerly split into two species (myrtle and Audobon's warblers) but in 1973 was reclassified as a single species. "Myrtle" adn "Audubon's" warblers have largely allopatric ranges but hybridize where they are sympatric in the Canadian Rockies. They are similar in appearance but are readily distinguished by experienced birders. What further data about these two forms should ornithologists collect and analyze to decide whether they should continue to be classified as a single species? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP. IT IS MUCH NEEDED AND APPRECIATED.

Open Question: Colorblind Racism in James Cameron's Avatar?
Hi, it would be helpful to receive more opinions and ideas about this for a paper I'm writing. Avatar undoubtedly contains racist themes- the white guys attacking the natives, etc etc. What I'm focusing more on is, although the movie itself does not intend to be racist, its artistic portrayal of the Na'vi has been questioned, since these aliens have been inspired by depictions of tribal cultures and minorities. Just yesterday Ben Stiller was made up as a Na'vi-- he attempted what was supposed to be Na'vi tribal language and made the audience giggle. Although it was nothing serious, do you think that every of this points to a covert racist perspective on tribal cultures? Could the Na'vi themselves be directly symbolic of this? Are they "minority hybrids" painted blue? Is the movie following the same old "cowboys and indians" formula --although it's more like "Pocahontas"-- doesn't it carry the same stereotyped "indian antagonist" image (the bows and arrows, riding wild animals, skimpy dress, etc)? I'm attempting to apply the idea of colorblind racism to the movie, because although it does not deliberately degrade any particular race or ethnicity, and that its main theme is about adore & coexistence, the portrayal of the alien na'vi people is still questionable. So how do you think that the na'vi could be offending or degrading other cultures? Do the na'vi characters influence the audiences' racial perspectives? Do they do so subliminally? How could the movie have been changed to receive rid of the subliminal or colorblind racism? I'd appreciate your thoughts- also any articles/interviews about the subject.

Open Question: Which story idea should I continue writing out of the two?
Disclaimer: It's mainly animal-like ideas posted, but give it your best shot at helping anyway :) Calethor- In Missouri, there lies a mysterious forest. Unlike other forests, this one posses elemental powers. Great storms are called down and many weather disasters strike furiously to their interlopers. A high school class comes along and become victims to the savage wilderness. Only few survive with raging quarrels and fatal teamwork.A somewhat spoiled labrador who worked for the Search and Rescue had a gift which led her on a journey to keep these teens before the worse comes. Freedom's Light- Claira is a young half-tiger/half-elven girl known as a Hybrid. A child genetically engineered to have a humanish mom and an animal dad. The world of Paryna wants Hybrids to aid them in fierce wars of a domination of the Earth and other worlds surrounding it. Claira refuses to be used for such insolence and defiantly escapes the clutches of the Versiveh, a powerful group of humans who seek to control the Hybrids. Claira manages to escape, but her intellectual wit may guide Paryna to a better world. Which one seems appealing to you and give a rating outta 10. 10 being best and 1 being bad. Extra info and advice greatly appreciated :) Go me, made few grammical errors and I did receive atleast a Chapter 1 from these two stories. Open Question: What to you think of the Tamaskan Dog?
I'm aware it's a mutt and reputable breeders don't breed mutts but considering the wolf hybrid obsession, couldn't there be some virtue in establishing a breed that looks like a wolf while remaining 100% domestic dog? I know some hybrid owners pick that dog because of characteristics other than looks but the majority of them simply wanted a dog that looks like a wolf. I'm not condoning selecting a dog based solely on appearance but most people are going to receive a dog that physically appeals to them. Better it be a domestic dog than a wild animal. Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes certainly look more "wolfish" than most breeds but let's be honest, they don't look close as much like a wolf as a Tamaskan does. And I think they have working potential similar to Sibs and Mals considering those are the breeds they were primarily derived from. I'm not asking because I'm planning to purchase one, I'm simply looking for opinions.

Resolved Question: Tell me if this invention would be marketable.?
I am sure many people deal with the issue of constantly having to cary around a laptop power cable because you lose your charge. For example you have your charger upstairs but carry your laptop downstairs then you receive the message that your power is low and have to go receive your cable. my solution is to make a laptop that can recharge itself somewhat. The concept is nice of like a hybrid car. The laptop would be recharged by key taps or mouse scrolls. i will focus on key taps here. everytime you press a key down it converts that energy into power for the laptops battery. I do not yet know what devices could preform such a task or if the energy drawn would even be enough to charge it at every. i am assuming that from 2 hours of usage you could generate enough power for another 30 minutes or so. There could also just be an extra key you can press when you have nothing to type but desperately need the power. Would you be interested in such a product? do you think this is possible? i have already field for a patent, but it remains to be seen if it can be done in an affordable manner. If anybody would like to join in on this and has knowledge of the components necessary let me know. Thanks. i couldn't agree more with poster #1. i will be seriously smacking myself in the head when this is made by hp or something in the close future and i missed out on the opportunity to revolutionize the computer industry.

Open Question: Report the approximate kinetic and thermodynamic ranges for [CuX(Bpy)] and [(CuX)2(Bpy)]?
Hi everyone, I really need some help with a Chemistry II lab scenario. I cannot find anything in the lab manual about this and everything I look at just confuses me every the more. Let me start from the beginning: (FOR THE ACTUAL ASSIGNMENT SHEET, PLEASE SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM; THANKS!) I'm doing a three-part experiment where I try to determine a Copper coordination complex. Currently, I am at week 2. every of steps have been completed up to the point of question 3 for week 2. I seem to be stuck at step 4 of week 2. So, I created the table for the CuX/Bpy ratios. I am working with Copper Iodide (CuI). The experiment was performed, no problems. I got the CuI/Bpy ratios no problem. 5/1 =5.00; 5/2 = 2.50; 5/3 = 1.67, etc... The experiment was performed the way the sheet said to perform it. After performing the experiment, my partner and I determined at ZERO minutes, every ratios were a canary yellow color. At FIVE minutes, 5/1, 5/2, 5/3, 5/4 were still yellow, 5/5 and the relax were an increasingly darker yellow going from 5/5 to 5/6 to 5/7, accordingly. At TEN minutes, the first 4 were still yellow, 5/5 got darker yellow, 5/6 started turning a light orange, 5/7, 5/8, 5/9 were an easter pastel orange, and 5/10 was a peach color. At FIFTEEN minutes, every ten tubes looked very similar to ten minutes. At THIRTY minutes, 5/1 and 5/2 had turned an almost neon yellow; it was very bright. 5/3 and 5/4 were a dark yellow. 5/5 was a light orange now. 5/6 and 5/7 were orange. 5/8, 5/9 and 5/10 were a red orange. At SIXTY minutes, 5/1 and 5/2 still are bright yellow. 5/3 and 5/4 are dark and cloudy yellow. 5/5 is peach. The relax were red orange. With this data, is anyone able to tell me exactly how to do step 4? I seem to be hitting a brick wall with this in every regard. I will give best answer to anyone who can tell me how to do this. If you need more data, please let me know. The assignment sheet is below here: Again, sorry the pictures got clip out: The Synthesis of Copper(I)-Organic Networks Introduction Molecular compounds, such as H2O, CO2, sucrose, and aspirin, are familiar to us. However, another, and equally important, group of compounds exists. In network compounds, bonding extends across a very big number of atoms. Networks are essentially infinite one dimensional (1D), two dimensional (2D), or three dimensional (3D) repeating arrays of atoms or ions, forming chains, sheets, or lattices, respectively. Networks can be formed through covalent or ionic bonding. Due to their big number of chemical bonds, network materials are usually relatively high-melting solids. Examples of covalent networks based on carbon-carbon bonds include diamond (a 3D lattice), graphite (2D), and a host of organic polymers, most of which are 1D chains or 2D or 3D cross-linked lattices. Inorganic networks include a wide variety of both covalent and ionic species, including many minerals, such as quartz (SiO2), limestone/marble (CaCO3), pyrite (FeS2), and the feldspars (e.g. NaAlSi3O8). In this experiment, you will synthesize examples of hybrid inorganic-organic materials, so-called .metal- organic. networks. These materials are composed of metal centers, linked together by organic molecules. Bridging Ligands Ligands are ions or molecules that bond to metal centers by donating a lone pair of electrons (i.e., they are Lewis bases). Ligands usually help stabilize metal ions by withdrawing positive charge. Copper(I) compounds are significantly stabilized by the use of certain ligands. Many ligands, such as NH3, can form only one bond to a metal middle. A bidentate ligand has at least two lone pairs (usually on different atoms) and can form two bonds to metal atoms. The bidentate .bipyridyl. ligands are shown in Figure 1. The 2,2’ isomer of bipyridyl is prone to chelate, bonding both electron pairs to a single metal middle. However, the 4,4’ isomer of bipyridyl cannot chelate because of geometrical constraints. Instead, it usually bridges pairs of metal atoms. A halide ion (X.) has four lone pairs and can form two or more bonds to metal centers. Halide ligands cannot chelate, but they are apt to form bridges. It is not difficult to look that the formation of bridges between metal atoms is a direct route to the production of network compounds. CuX-Bpy Network Complexes In this experiment, you will prepare network complexes of copper(I) halides with 4,4'-bipyridyl (.Bpy.). Direct reaction of CuX (X = Cl, Br, or I) with Bpy in acetonitrile solution produces insoluble network products having two different stoichiometric ratios: [CuX(Bpy)] and [(CuX)2(Bpy)]. The network structures of these compounds are shown in Figure 2. You will note that both metal-organic networks feature bridging of both X and Bpy. Both networks form 2D sheet structures composed of Cu2X2 units interconnected by Bpy ligands. However, significant differences in the arrangement of these units exist in Week 2 (Work in pairs.) Prior to lab Produce a table in your notebook with the following column headings: [CuCl], [CuBr], or [CuI] (depending on which CuX you were assigned in Part A), [Bpy], CuX/Bpy ratio, Color @ 0 min, Color @ 5 min, Color @ 10 min, Color @ 15 min, Color @ 30 min, Color @ 60 min. Using the information in Table II, fill in values for the first three columns. (Note that the extra MeCN solvent is added to make the total volume and the dilution equal for each sample.) Table II. Reagent volumes for Part B. Part B. Determination of Equilibrium Position Preparation of stock solutions 1. Prepare a 20.0 mM acetonitrile (MeCN) solution of your assigned CuX, using exactly 198 mg of CuCl, 287 mg of CuBr, or 381 mg of CuI in a 100 mL volumetric flask. Filter the CuX solution through a cone of filter paper into a 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask. 2. The 20.0 mM solution of Bpy in MeCN has been prepared in advance (by dissolving 3.124 g/L). Preparation of CuX-Bpy mixtures Label a series of Preparation of CuX-Bpy mixtures Label a series of ten big test tubes with the CuX/Bpy ratio values that you calculated prior to lab. Using the volumes listed in Table I, prepare a series of CuX-Bpy mixtures in these test tubes according to the following sequence: 1. Dispense the specified volumes of (pure) MeCN and 20.0 mM Bpy from the appropriate burets. This should total 10 mL in each test tube. 2. Using a volumetric pipet, transfer exactly 5.0 mL of CuX solution into each test tube. Immediately note in your notebook the color of the suspension that rapidly forms in each reaction mixture. 3. Stand the test tubes together in a 1 L beaker. Place a tiny stir bar in each mixture and stir the suspensions on a magnetic stirrer for one hour. Note the color of each mixture in your notebook at the following time values: 0 min, 5 min, 10 min, 15 min, 30 min, 60 min. 4. Data analysis: Based on your knowledge of the colors of [CuX(Bpy)] and [(CuX)2(Bpy)] (for your assigned CuX), create a tabl 4. Data analysis: Based on your knowledge of the colors of [CuX(Bpy)] and [(CuX)2(Bpy)] (for your assigned CuX), create a table in your lab report, indicating the initial and final composition of each sample ([CuX(Bpy)], [(CuX)2(Bpy)], or a mixture) at each observation time. Report the approximate kinetic and thermodynamic stability ranges for [CuX(Bpy)] and [(CuX)2(Bpy)]. Oh, and of course, let's not forget citations: References 1. P. M. Graham, R. D. Pike, M. Sabat, R. But I am thnking I should also buy some body armor. $70, and if I put it on, unless the guy hits me in the head, I am guaranteed to win any gunfight, provided I have a chance to toss it on. Open Question: Biology Questions....?
The plasma membrane is described as a fluid mosaic because A) in vertebrates it is an unchanging solid at room temperature but a fluid at body temperature B) Some proteins and phospholipids float freely in the bilayer. C) the phospholipids form a fluid-like bilayer in which stationary proteins are embedded D) the proteins form a liquid-like matrix in which stationary phospholipids are embedded It is possible to fuse together cells from two different sources. When are mouse cell whose membrane proteins have been stained red is fused with a human cell whose membrane proteins have been stained green, the different colored membrane proteins become uniformly distributed over the surface of the hybrid cell. This occurs because proteins A) can move around within the bilayer B) are anchored within the membrane C) are asymmetrically distributed within the membrane D) are found on the surface of the membrane E) can be exposed on both extracellular and cytoplasmic sides of the membrane Proteins in the plasma membrane of the cell are responsible for every of the following membrane properties EXCEPT A) transport B) signaling C) recognition D) fluidity E) adhesion. Which of the following is TRUE of proteins in the plasma membrance? A) They bind to tiny molecules needed by the cell and facilitate their movement across the hydrophobic lipid bilayers into areas where they are found in lower concentration B) The bind to tiny molecules needed by the cell and facilitate their movement across the hydrophobic lipid bilayers into areas where they are found in higher concentration C) They create channels which allow ions and tiny molecules to move across the membrane into areas where they are found in lower concentration. D) They provides sites for recognition and binding of the cell by other cells. E) every of the over In order for diffusion to occur there must be A) a membrane B) a gradient C) water D) ATP E) every of the over. Thanks!

Open Question: Why do people bash having a Wolf Hybrid when they don't know anything about them?
I have 2 Wolf Hybrids and they are the smartest & most amazing pets I've ever owned! They're not for everyone though due to needing a big fenced in yard for lots of excercise! They are extremely loyal & both of mine learned the commands SIT, STAY, & arrive at the age of 7 WEEKS!!! I adore them to pieces! Okay just because I said that you need a backyard to keep them in doesn't mean that I don't take them for walks & they receive plenty of socializtion at the dog park EVERY morning & evening... It was a simple question & before every the ignorant people continue to bash the animals receive some FACTS before you cast judgement! How do you think dogs became domesticated & you can ask a scientist.. wolf & dog are the SAME. Geeze! Thank you for every of your honest answers! =) I have raised Wolfdogs for 17 years and they have never had any problems with other dogs, or kids... =) Thanks for your concern though! ;) I do not advise high content wolves to any novice wolf dog owner. Actually I give anyone every the precautions of ownership as they can be distructive as well as any northern breed of dog such as the Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky & Spitz. Thanks again for every of your input!

Open Question: How far does a hybrid run off the batery before the engine starts?
My wife just bought a new Toyota Camry hybrid. It is last years model and has been sitting on the lot for over a year. The accessory battery needed to be replaced the first day. I'm wondering if the "traction" battery is still good. It seems like it only runs about 30 seconds or less before the gas engine turns on. Shouldn't a hybrid go a lot further than that on a full traction battery? Please share your experience with how far your hybrid can run on the traction battery. Thanks!

Open Question: Rush Limbaugh wants to leave the country if health reform is passed!? Question: Where would he go?
Apparently on his radio show, Rush stated that he would leave the country if health reform is passed and go to Costa Rica. ------------------------------------ CALLER: If the health care bill passes, where would you go for health care yourself? And the second part of that is, what would happen to the doctors, do they have to participate in the federal program, or could they opt out of it? [...] LIMBAUGH: My guess in even in Canada and even in the UK, doctors have opted out. And once they’ve opted, they can’t look anybody Medicare, Medicaid, or what will become the exchanges. They have to have a clientele of private patients that will pay them a retainer and it’ll be a very tiny practice. I don’t know if that’s been outlawed in the Senate bill. I don’t know. I’ll just tell you this, if this passes and it’s five years from now and every that stuff gets implemented — I am leaving the country. I’ll go to Costa Rica. ------------------------------------------------------- look this link for a playback of the call. http://thinkprogress.org/2010/03/09/limbaugh-exile-health-care/ Unfortunately it looks like Costa Rica already has a similar system to the reform package that's being discussed: "Costa Rica’s hybrid government-private health care system provides comprehensive universal coverage to every residents — and even sells affordable policies to soon-to-be visitors like Limbaugh. The government owns several major public hospitals and operates tiny clinics in almost every community. Workers are required to contribute 15% of their salaries to health insurance and the unemployed “obtain public funding for every health services, including prescription drugs.” At least a third of every Costa Rican residents receive some care in the private sector and the government regularly purchases services from private providers. The system is not without its problems, but it boasts a higher ranking from the World Health Organization — Costa Rica is 36, United States 37 — and has higher life expectancy and lower baby mortality rates. Costa Rica also spends less per capita on health care than the United States and insures almost every of its residents." So my question to you is, where in the developed world could Rush flee to if he was indeed serious? Excellent job Shovel Ready. You have stated the obvious. Now let me clarify... WHERE in the developed world is he going to go to find health care that isnt "ruined" by a socialist approach? His chosen destination of Costa Rica already has the same approach he'd be fleeing from. Thank you Emporer has no clothes for reminding me that somehow creating insurance exchanges that allow people to purchase from private companies across state lines is a "government takeover" of health care... somehow. Could you direct me to a link that shows which bill you're talking about? The current legislation's main provision is the creation of insurance exchanges to allow freer competition between insurance agencies.
